The Big Pond
I want to share with you what I believe was the turning point to finally getting the thumbs up from my honey to build a farm pond on the property. I had tried for years to get the ok for a pond but always shot down because it would turn to green slime. In a way I was happy that all things turned out the way they did.
Why? For one the pond turned out way bigger than first thought. I mean who likes mowing the yard so make it bigger.
Second, I increased skills on the backhoe and dozer and was able to learn more information about ponds over the years.
Third, was more of a bummer meaning all the years of not having a pond. I wanted a pond to do some fishing in and to jump in for a swim once in a while. Allot of the folks we know had been installing ponds over the years, some even on their second pond.
With all that said, our neighbors invited us to go on vacation with them. My honey and I used to go camping, at first it was a good time but having property we could stay home and do that, besides after three days I was stir crazy, we could be home working on or building something.
Back to our neighbors invite. They asked if we would like to spend a week at the outer banks of North Carolina. So we thought a little bit, I thought “man a whole week and not getting anything done at home? Anyways we went and it was amazing, this big pond somehow had a magical effect on my honey and I, there were no worries about being home, worrying about work and other every day stress. At first I found the waves annoying but within an hour they are calming and soothing. There are things to do like sightseeing, aquarium, shopping of coarse and doing absolutely nothing but sit on the beach, enjoying the sun, sounds, waves and if you can’t fly a kite.. You can here.
The magic of the big pond was the breaking point for getting my little honey to say yes for the pond and our new vacation spot as an annual every two year vacation. We also looked into the possibility of getting a condo more on the in the next post.
The magic happens after the farm pond was built. It no longer was just a pond, but a large body of water that has the magic to wash your stress away with sites of wildlife, reflections from the water’s surface , bird’s, frog’s, fish, geese ducks and deer ,and sounds, from the ripples lapping at the shore, fountain and of course the sounds of nature.
Our pond has become the focal point of the property for us and friends, family call and ask “hey you at the pond”? Ok we’ll be over.
So if you’ve been to the big pond you know what I mean, if you haven’t below is a short video of our past vacation.

Hello Darrell,
Great video and I’m glad you decided to spend a week at the “big” pond! It is very relaxing. I have a “big” pond about 5 minutes from my house! I really want a smaller version in my backyard as well! One day.
Regards,
Lori Bray
