Pond Log

The Pond Log® is a very unique item for the pond. Actually the Pond Log® is for the pond water clarity removing up to 75% of inanimate nutrients from the pond water. The added bonus is remove fine suspended inanimate particles such as clay and phosphorous allow us to see much deeper into the pond. Be sure to watch the video below.

As the Pond Log® dissolves it floats throughout the water column and collects the fine suspended inanimate particles and continues to collect until the attracted particle become heavy enough to sink to the bottom of the pond. Below are a few questions and answers about the Pond Log. Be sure to watch the video at the bottom as well.

What is a polymer?

Polymer is a generic term used many times for Polyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide (PAM) is what is used to make Pond Logs. There is cationic PAM which is positively charged and anionic PAM which is negatively charged. This is important because cationic PAM can attach to the gills of fish and cause them to suffocate. Anionic PAM is negatively charged and does not attach to the gills of fish because fish gills are negatively charges, they repel.

What does the pond log do?

The Pond Log® binds together the excess inanimate nutrients in the water column, therefore clarifying the pond water.

How does it work?

The Pond Log® works kind of like a magnet picking up metal shavings. As the Pond Log® dissolves the blend of PAMs is released into the water column, the PAMs are sticky and bind together the excess nutrients in the pond.

What happens as it is working?

As the water moves over and around the Pond Log®, it begins to dissolve. Depending on the flow of the water the Pond Log® can last from a few weeks to months. The faster the water is moving the shorter the life span and the opposite is also true.

One 5 pound pond log can treat 325,000 gallons. Please download the sampling form below or use the contact form giving us your address and info on the pond if you need help figuring out the volume of your pond.

Storage when the season is over?

If the season is over and the Pond Log has not fully dissolved, then pull it from the pond and allow it to dry for a day or two. Once it is dry it can be stored in a trash bag out of direct sunlight. You do not want to put a wet Pond Log® in a plastic bag because you will never be able to get it out.

Also for the smaller ponds and water features is the Pond Zinger® or Mini Pond Log®. Again we need to have moving water like a waterfall, fountain or aeration to distribute the components throughout the water to be cleared.
